The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi sanctioned a financial support of Rs. 82 lakhs for three years w.e f. 2020 to General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College Patiala under the Star College Scheme. Four Science Departments viz. Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics have been selected to strengthen scientific temperament among the students at undergraduate level. To meet the defined objectives under the sanctioned scheme, the college organized various academic and scientific activities including workshops, seminars, extension lecture and training programmes for students. The standard operating procedures for practicals were standardized. Concerned departments have strengthened their laboratory infrastructure involving installation of modern equipments and consumables for undergraduate students to upgrade their practical knowledge.

To provide better library facility to students and teachers
To promote networking and strengthen ties with neighboring institutions and other laboratories
To conduct specialized training programmes for faculty improvement for optimizing technical capabilities
To increase capabilities of core instrumentation resources by procuring new equipment and upgrading existing facilities
To provide access and exposure to students to research laboratories and industries in the country
To help in devising standard curricula and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)/kits for practicals.
