To keep pace with emerging paradigms in Information Technology, GSSDGS Khalsa College, Patiala established “Mata Sundri Block of Computer Science” in 1991. In the wake of the globalization of the Indian Economy, the Department of Computer Science has been in forefront churning out software professionals equipped with a high calibre of technical expertise in this region. The main aim of the department is to provide the students a dynamic blend of theory and practicals so that they turn out to be successful professionals with higher technical skills. The Department of Computer Science constantly evolve the teaching methods and provide quality education to the students. We offer suitable designed and well-planned courses as per industrial requirements which unfold endless job oppurtunities for the students in Software Companies as System Administrators, Information Analyst, Programmers, Software Developers,Web Designers,Network Engineers and Managers in IT sector. Also, the department is running a Computonics Club that is by the students and for the students to encourage the students to participate in various extra curricular activities and inter / intra activities organised by the college.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department imparts quality education in the field of Computer Science and grooms students for higher calibre, skills, integrity, and future career planning.

M.Sc. Information Technology (Lateral Entry)
Master of Science or M.Sc. in information technology or IT is a two years long post-graduate level master’s degree program. It aims to provide theoretical as well as practical knowledge on topics like software development, data mining, computer systems, analytics etc.
Program Outcome (PO) This course focuses on practical experience as student can opt for career in the computer Programming /software development/web development .The course grooms the students for lucrative avenues in IT industry as Web Designer, web administrator, Software consultant, system analyst, Database administrator etc.
Program Specific Outcome (PSO)
- PSO1: Students will be able to understand the basic concepts of programming language along with the basic knowledge of discrete structure. In addition to that students have the complete knowledge of Programming Languages of computer system along with software and students will have complete knowledge of research methodology that will help them in betterment of their future.
- PSO2: Students will be able to understand the basic concepts of operating system along with the memory management techniques through complete knowledge of architecture along with relational database management system that will help them to understand the real life applications by creating database entities. In addition to that students have the complete knowledge data mining techniques and electronic commerce and Python programming techniques.

Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) is a one year long professional post-graduate programme for candidates wanting to delve deeper into the world of computer application development. This programme is designed to provide higher level education in Information Technologies and to develop the coding and analytical ability of the students.
Program Outcome (PO) - Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) is designed for graduate students who are interested in computer applications. This course has been made for students who want to learn computer applications in different fields like banking, insurance and accounting. Diploma in Computer Hardware and Networking (DCHN) is Diploma level Networking course. The course provides students with a competitive edge in the IT world. Their technical skills include the ability to construct a computer from scratch as well as the implementation, management and maintenance of computers and network configurations to optimize performance. The course provides learners with a cutting edge in the domain and enables them to construct a machine from scratch.

Certificate Course in Office Automation and E-Governance
Certificate Course in Office Automation focuses on providing basic training of computer and its most common software which is to be used in Office work. This program provides an in-depth training in use of office automation, internet and internet tools. The course also helps the candidates to get acquainted with IT.

Certificate Course in Database Administration focuses on the basic concepts related to database management. The students will learn database management and administration by practicing on the MySQL environment.
