Teaching Pedagogy
General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College, Patiala believes in amalgamating wellbeing, sense of belonging, autonomy and mastery into its teaching pedagogy. Students are involved in meaningful discussions beyond their syllabus to schedule brain breaks. The purpose of this is to let students disconnect from their work for some time and learn about concurrent issues. They are made to present seminars, power points presentations, read out aloud, recite and present their assignments in the class. Thus, they celebrate their learning by presenting their work to others. Teachers know each child and keep a record of their strengths and weaknesses. They are given freedom to showcase the potential that they already have and then they are offered choices to pick an activity. Every effort is made to involve all students into the teaching learning process.
Extra and co-curricular activities are a significant part of the curriculum. Many platforms like literary societies, cells, clubs, wings, associations, centres and committees strive to equip students with life skills. These learning platforms chisel the personalities of the students so that they remain buoyant to face any challenge in the world.
Academic Calendar, which is prepared by all departments, guides the students about their academic and co-curricular journey. After breaking the ice sessions, formal teaching starts and brain breaks, tours, excursions, visits, rehearsals become major platforms of well-being and foster a sense of belonging. Experts are welcomed to deliver talks and discourses and to dole out tips to make them worthy citizens.
Various platforms at college make strides towards equipping students with skills to survive professional challenges. Mock interviews, extension lectures, educational visits and practice sessions make them ready to embrace a profession, stick to it and enjoy a sustainable growth.
