One of the distinguished Department of the Khalsa College, Patiala, Department of History was established in 1960 under the stewardship of Dr. Ganda Singh (a renowned Historian). The Post Graduation course of History was started in 2016.

Programme Outcome: History is a great domain to pursue and gradually it is becoming quite a popular subject Post Graduation in history paves way to different Government jobs such as SSC, UPSC, Banks and various academic and research institutions like teaching, ICHR.

Students will have the ability to apply historical methods to evaluate critically the past and how historians and others have interpreted it.

The course will impart knowledge to the students about the history of the world power  in a critical way.

Activity outcome

This seminar was very informative for the entire audience. Students learnt about the contribution and sacrifices of the Punjabis in the India's Independence Movement. In this activity chief guest discussed about  the first freedom fighter of Punjab Bhai Maharaj Singh ji and other famous Indian revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru’s role in independence. Dr. Satish Kumar Verma, Dr. Gurnaib Singh also addressed the entire audience. In nutshell students were made aware about Punjabi’s important role and sacrifice for the independence of the Nation.

 

P.G.Department of History organised the Educational visit of the students of the Department for the Heritage Fair,Sheesh Mahal Patiala on 2 March,2023 .  20 students from the Department visited there.This visit was organised to give them opportunity to know about the culture of other States which enriches  and develop their interest in the different types of skills.Teachers from the Department also accompanied the students. This visit was very valuable for the students from educational perspective.

P.G. department of History organised an educational visit to Archaeological Museum, Sanghol and Government Museum & Art Gallery, Chandigarh on 28 March 2024. All the students of M.A Ist and M.A 2nd of History Department were enlighten with culture , various historical events and scientific advancements during this visit. The students gained knowledge practically about the evolution of mankind and about the various stages of the development of the life of a man which helped them in their theoretical study of their subject.

Induction and Orientation Programme

On 14 October,2022, P.G Department of History organized an induction program for B.A part I and M.A. part I students.On this program, the college Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that students can achieve high position in life by doing hard work.. While sharing his life experiences, he said that there is no age to learn. Man always learns like a student at every stage of life. Dr. Ubha encouraged the students to participate in co- curricular activities and sports. Vice Principal Dr. Harwinder Kaur, while addressing the students, motivated them to choose the right path in life .70 students of B.A.part I, M.A. part I of the department participated in this program. Heads of different departments and teachers were present on this program.Dr. Jiwant Kaur conducted the stage.

 

 

On 2nd March,2023 ,one day educational visit was organized for Heritage Fair,Sheesh Mehal Patiala  .Students visited the fair which enhanced their knowledge about the different historical culture of other states.Students gained knowledge about the art of sculptures,handicrafts, ornaments and dances of different states from historical perspective.

 

 

On22 April,2023,one day historical trip was organized for Anadpur Sahib and other historical places.Students visited there Gurudwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib .They came to know to the historical importance of this place that it marked the birth place of Khalsa and one of the five religious authorities(Five Takhts) of Sikhism.Students also visited there Virasat-e Khalsa(built in the honour of Sikhism and celebrates the glorious Sikh history) and other historical places.

In order to welcome the new students and introduce them about the basic rules and regulations of the college campus, Student Induction Program was organised by PG Department of History in collaboration with Department of History on 23 August 2023 at Bhai Gurdas Conference Hall at 10 AM. In this program, College Principal Dr.Dharminder Singh Ubha, Vice Principal Dr.Harvinder Kaur, Dr.Rouble Brar ,Covnenor Anti Ragging Cell and Scholarship Incharge Prof. Jaspreet Singh were present during this programme.College  Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha formally welcomed the new students in the college and provide required information related to rules and regulations .Dr. Ubha motivate them for their all round development.  Dr. Harvinder kaur encouraged the students to participate in various academic and cultural activities  at College and University level . During this activity students of Graduate Classes ( B.A 1st, 2nd and 3rd year ) and Post graduate classes (M.A Ist and M A 2nd year History) made their presence in a big number.  Dr. Rouble Brar told the students about the activities of the Anti Ragging Cell of the College. Heads of the various departments and the students in a big number were their Dr. Satvinder Kaur conducted the stage.

 An educational tour was organized by the  Post Graduate Department of History.During this tour,students of U.G. and P.G. classes visited the Book Fair organised by the Punjabi University,Patiala. They bought Historical,Litrary and other books relating to different fields.They also  visited Bhai Khan Singh Nabha Library, Thesis section, Journal section, Bhai Ganda Singh Reference Library, Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan and Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan during this visit.

P.G. Department of History has organized “Rubaroo” programme by Sardar Parminder Singh Tiwana (Renowned Journalist/ Speaker) on 13 February 2024 at Bhai Gurdass Conference Hall at 11.30 a.m. . In this lecture a big number of students of the department were present..  On this occasion sardar Parminder Singh Tiwana explained the current perspectives of international, national, and local issues. He  highlighted the Farmer’s protest, Farm bills and various cultural and historical changes in history of Punjab.He also motivated the students to read newspaper and books to widen their knowledge. The speaker told the students about the role of hard work with a positive attitude which always paved the way of  success. He has also gave the answers of various questions raised by the students and encourage them to set an example for others. Principal, Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha also motivated the students to do hard work. Dr. Harjit Kaur and all the faculty members were present. Dr. Satwinder Kaur conducted the stage.

The History Department of Khalsa college, Patiala organized a 102th Martyrdom Day dedicated to the martyrdom of freedom Fighter Shaheed Kartar Sigh Sarbha. In this program one documentary will also be shown.

Activity outcome

This activity was dedicated to the martyrdom of freedom fighter Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha. Dr. Satish Kumar Verma, addressed the gathering,He mentioned Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha who spent many  days of his life in the jail to attain freedom of the country.. This seminar connected the audience with Nation’s valuable history and threw light that Kartar Singh Sarabha,a member of the Gadar Party , was a leadin luminary member and he fought for the Indian independence movement.

The students visited Bir Dasondhi Ram Ashram,Patiala which is also known as Karamyogi Dasondhi Ram Birji Maharaj Ashram. He  was an exemplary social worker and founder of several charitable and educational institutions in Patiala. Students participation in this activity to promoted the moral values and goal to serve the needy. Further Students helped with the distribution of food items and other

essential goods.

 

P.G.Department of History organised Orientation cum Induction Prgramme on 14 October,2022.This programme was in order to welcome the freshers of the session of 2022-23. About 60 students of B.A. I (litrature), B.A. I(Social Science ) and M.A. I were present there.Dr. Harvinder Kaur,Vice Principal addressed the students to work hard,to follow the moral values and norms of the college.She also motivated them to participate in the co-curriculum activities on the college.Dr. Harjit Kaur, Head of the Department,also addressed the students for their commitment towards their duties.Teachers of the Department were also present there.

On 4 September, 2024, P.G Department of History organized an Orientation and Induction programme at Bhai Nand Lal Auditoriam of Bhai Daya Singh Block of School of Commerce and Management Department.This programme was organized for the students of BA-1and MA –I classes.

 

College Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha motivated students to achieve high position in life by doing hard work.  Dr. Ubha encouraged the students to participate in co- curricular activities and sports.

 

Vice Principal Dr. Harvinder Kaur, while addressing the students, motivated them to choose the right path in life .She inspired the students to participate in the academic, sports and cultural activities.

Dr. Rubal Brar,convenor of the Anti Ragging cell, told the students about the programmes of the cell.Pr. Jaspreet Singh, incharge of scholarship scheme,highlighted the various scholarship schemes of Govt and SGPC. Dr. Satwinder Kaur conducted the stage.

135. Students of B.A.part I, M.A. part I of the department participated in this programme. Heads of different departments and teachers were present during this program.

On 1st October 2024,Essay Writing Compitition was organized  by the P.G.Department of History. In this compitittion, students of  B.A.,B.A.Social Sciences and M.A. Classes participated. They wrote Essays on the topic Mohandas Karamchad Gandhi-Father of the Nation.

Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha motivated students to take part in such compititions in order to develop their personality.Dr. Ubha asked students to work hard in the life to lead qualitative life. Dr. Harjit Kaur inspired students to participate in co- curricular activities also.28 students participated in this competition.

On 10th September 2024,Paper Reading Compitition was organized by the History Department. In this Compitition,students of B.A.1-Social Sciences wrote Papers on the Topic Importance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.During this competition, students presented their views about the importance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from different perspective.Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha inspired the students to take part in different compititions. Dr. Harjit Kaur said that the department will held such programmes in future.40 to 45 students participated in this competition.

On 14 November,2024,History Department organized Elocution Compitition on the title Ideas of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji about the God.In this competition, 30  students of the department participated.Pricipal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said  that such compititions shows the commitment of the students towards their studies and their interest for reading extra books. .Dr. Harjit Kaur also expressed her views on the topic.

 

 

On 19 February,2025, History Department organized One Day Educational Visit for Saaras Fair at Sheesh Mahal Patiala.There ,students visited shops of other states and came to know about their heritage.Students also came to know about the folk of other states.Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that such visits motivate the students to work hard in order to enrich their heritage. Dr. Harjit Kaur said that the department will organize such visits in future also.15 students of the department visited the fair.

On 24 February,2025, History Department organized Poster Making Compitition dedicated to 350 year martyrdom century of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. .Students of B.A.-1,B.A.-11 and B.A.-111 participated in this competition.Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that the students must learn the values from the teachings of the Gurus.Dr. Harjit Kaur inspired the students to take part in such activities to improve their skill .Dr. Manvir Kaur ,head of the Fine arts Department,gave the judgement.Komal(87) of B.A.-1 got first position.Gulshan Kaur(3339) of B.A.11 got second position.Jasmeen Sharma(2041) of B.A.1 got third position.25 students participated in this competition.

Activity outcome

Teachers Day was celebrated as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. In the wake of Corona virus pandemic, all colleges were closed for the last few months so students and teachers celebrated Teacher’s Day of this year in virtual mode. Students discussed methods of learning while staying at home. The teachers supported students in pandemic conditions and helped them to cope with the mental stress of lockdown.

This seminar is very informative for the students. The keynote speaker extensively elaborated the contribution of Bengal and Punjab in freedom struggle. The connection between Bengal and Punjab during colonial time was also discussed. Event ended with recognizing the Independence Day and student were given lessons to defend the Nation and its glory.
