The NCC Navy Wing of Khalsa College Patiala celebrated Navy Day with great enthusiasm under the leadership of Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha and the guidance of Captain (Indian Navy) Harjit Singh Deol, Commanding Officer of 1 Punjab Naval Unit, Nangal.  Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ubha emphasized the role of the NCC in nurturing talent and discipline among students. Highlighting the remarkable achievements of the Indian Navy, he commended its pivotal role in safeguarding the nation.  Sub Lieutenant Dr. Sarbjeet Singh ANO of the Navy Wing elaborated on the significance of NCC and its impact on students’ lives. He reminded the audience of the Navy's heroic actions during the 1971 war, which ensured the protection of India’s maritime domain feat that is commemorated every year on December 4th as Navy Day.  15 cadets from the NCC Navy Wing actively participated in the event, making it a memorable occasion.

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of GSSDGS Khalsa College, Patiala, organized an enlightening online session on "Startups and Funding". The Resource Person of the session was Mr. Ravinder Singh from Adymize, who shared invaluable insights into the entrepreneurial world, focusing on digital marketing, monetizing Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms, freelancing, and e-commerce.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Anju Khullar, Vice President of IIC, who highlighted the college's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students. Mr. Ravinder Singh engaged the audience with practical strategies for starting and scaling a business in the digital era, offering advice to budding entrepreneurs.

Startup Coordinator Dr. Rosy Bansal was instrumental in organizing the event, ensuring its success through meticulous planning and execution. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Satveer Kaur (Asst. Prof Computer Science), who expressed gratitude to the speaker for his valuable contribution and to the IIC team for their dedication.

The keynote speaker of the session was Mr. Ranen Das from Ixora Group, who shared invaluable insights into the trademark, copyright, and patent, focusing on various aspects of IPR. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha delivered an inspiring speech, emphasising the significance of understanding intellectual property rights in today's competitive environment. Mr. Das began by emphasising the importance of IPR in today's knowledge-driven economy. He highlighted how IPR has become a crucial topic in trade negotiations, impacting the socioeconomic development of nations like India across agriculture, education, and healthcare sectors. Initially, he explained the filing of the patent application, the steps involved, the terms and conditions, and the exclusivity of the patent. Afterward, he delved deeper into trademarks, discussing their significance in branding and marketing, the registration process, and their protection against infringement. Furthermore, Mr. Das elucidated the concept of copyrights, covering literary works, artistic creations, and software programs. He concluded the session by underscoring the need for a robust IPR framework to foster innovation and technological advancements. The webinar was attended by a diverse audience comprising faculty members, research scholars, and students (40) from various disciplines. Finally, a vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Ratan Pal Singh Randhawa, the convener of IIC, for the informative and engaging session. He expressed the college's commitment to promoting intellectual property rights and fostering a culture of innovation among the students and faculty.

IQAC  of General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College Patiala successfully completed a Seven-Day Staff Training Program on "Composting of garden waste" from 18th November,2024 to 26th November, 2024.  Resource person of the staff training program was Dr. Pradeep Srivastava, Associate Professor, P.G. Department of Agriculture.

 

The staff training program focused on Sustainable Gardening Practices for Waste Minimization, emphasizing eco-friendly techniques to reduce garden waste. Participants learned about water conservation methods such as rain barrels and drip irrigation, the benefits of using green manures and cover crops to enrich soil, and strategies to develop a personalized garden waste management plan incorporating composting, recycling, and mindful material usage. The session aimed to empower attendees with practical tools to create sustainable and waste-efficient gardens.

 

Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal, Khalsa College Patiala, applauded the efforts of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in organizing the training program on sustainable gardening and waste management. He emphasized that this initiative underscores the college’s commitment to continuous learning and environmental stewardship, ensuring that staff members remain updated with innovative practices in their field. Appreciating the dedication of the staff to acquiring sustainable skills, he stated that their commitment to such initiatives exemplifies the spirit of excellence and responsibility towards environmental conservation.

As per the instructions received from UGC New Delhi and NSS department of Punjabi University Patiala,  the Postgraduate Political Science Department and NSS Department  of Khalsa College Patiala collaboratively celebrated  Constitution Day. The main objective of which was to provide information to the students of the college about the Indian Constitution and its basic ideals.

On this occasion, the Vice Principal of the college, Dr. Harvinder Kaur said that in the Indian Constitution, where our rights have been mentioned, our duties have also been mentioned. She inspired the students to follow their rights as well as their duties and make a valuable contribution in creating a constructive society. Prof. Harmanpreet Singh made the students aware of the features of the Indian Constitution on this occasion.  NSS Program Officers of the college Dr. Sapna, Dr. Jagtar Singh and Dr. Davinder Singh said that on 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly formally adopted the Constitution of India and it came into force on 26 January 1950, which is celebrated as Republic Day. The college students also  shared  their views on the topic ‘Indian Constitution and Fundamental Rights’. The Preamble of the Constitution was also read out . On this occasion, College Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that such activities instill new enthusiasm in the students and students become conscious and realize their responsibility in the society. He said that students who do such activities along with studies and remain disciplined, achieve success in every field of life. On this occasion, ANO of Air wing, Flying Officer Prof.  Baldev Singh explained the purpose of NCC to the students well and said that its inception in 1948 was a big milestone. He shared the importance of joining NCC with the students and said that NCC has a lot of importance in the life of a student. 53 students from the NCC Air Wing, Department of Defense Studies, and Department of Public Administration of Khalsa College Patiala visited the Sain Old Age Home at Chaura, Patiala, today. They interacted with the elderly residents and spent time with them. On this occasion, Flying Officer NCC Air Wing, Prof. Baldev Singh, addressed the students, stating that the elderly are the asset of our society and we should take care of them, as they need extra care in their old age. He emphasized that it is our ethical duty to ensure that they do not feel any lack of attention or support. 

 

Dr. Poonamdeep Singh, Head of the Department of Public Administration, remarked that the presence of elderly people in old age homes reflects the breakdown of family structures in today's society, which is a social ill. He stressed that educated individuals should contribute towards reducing this issue and should teach their children moral values. 

 

Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of Khalsa College Patiala, praised the efforts made by the NCC Air Wing, Department of Defense Studies, and Department of Public Administration for organizing the visit. He highlighted that such visits not only provide students with theoretical knowledge but also offer practical education. 

 

The General Secretary of the Old Age Home, Ms Pratibha Sharma, mentioned that approximately 30 elderly people currently reside in the old age home. She shared that the land for the old age home was donated by the Panchayat of Choura village and that the home operates on charity. 

 

Other notable attendees included Prof. Jeevan Jyoti from the Department of Public Administration, Dr. Arvinder Singh, Flying Officer of NCC Air Wing, University College, Ghanaur, and Ms Loveleen Kaur, Joint Secretary of the Old Age Home.

Richard Bach once said, "A professional writer is an amateur who did not quit." Stories are wonderful pieces of prose that enable us to make sense of our world and pass on knowledge and values to ourselves and future generations. With this in mind, Bibliophiles, the book club of the School of Commerce and Management at Khalsa College, Patiala, organized a picture-based short story writing competition.

 

Students from M.B.A. (Leadership and Development), M. Com, BBA,Tax Planning and Management, and B. Com participated in the competition. The event aimed to empower students to cultivate a writing habit and appreciate literature in an era dominated by social media, aspiring to ignite a creative spark in them. This endeavor directed students toward the creative path of writing and active expression through written storytelling.

 

Principal, Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha congratulated the students for writing beautiful, mesmerizing stories based on random pictures. He stated that such events encourage students to think innovatively and creatively, developing excellent writing and communication skills.

 

Deputy Principal and Head of the Department, Dr. Jasleen Kaur congratulated the book club members on the event's successful completion. She noted that creating stories from random pictures is an art that strengthens students' thought processes and provides a platform to showcase their skills. Dr. Kaur encouraged department students to join the book club and cultivate reading and writing habits.

Twenty different stories were submitted by the students, from which three were selected as the best. Samridhi Rawat a student of BBA II,  Mohit Sahota of B.B.A I and  Jiya Garg of B.B.A third year secured first, second and third positions respectively. The competition winners received certificates and prizes.

Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of the college, while appreciating the efforts of IQAC of the college said that the training programme reflects our commitment to  promoting environmental sustainability, reducing waste management costs, and fostering eco-friendly practices within our institution. 

 

 Dr. Pardeep Srivastava, elaborated that composting garden waste has multiple benefits. It not only reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills but also produces nutrient-rich compost that can be used as a natural fertilizer, improving soil health and reducing the need for chemical alternatives. This aligns with sustainable development goals by reducing the institute’s carbon footprint.

 

Dr. Ravinderjit Singh, Coordinator IQAC, said that the training programme aims to ensure the consistent implementation of composting practices. Participants can learn about different composting methods, suitable materials, and common challenges. It fosters a sense of responsibility and teamwork among employees, encouraging them to adopt sustainable habits both at work and at home.

Student Welfare Committee (Girls) and Nanhi Chhan Cell of Khalsa College,  Patiala celebrated National Education Day. On this occasion an Essay Writing Competition on the topic, ‘ The Contribution of Girls Education to Social Development’ was conducted  in which students from various departments of the college participated in Punjabi and English languages.

 Principal, Dr.Dharminder Singh Ubha on this occasion said that the main purpose of celebrating this day of the college is to raise the courage, actions and leadership qualities of girls in the society and to raise awareness about gender based discrimination, torture and legal rights among them.

     Dr. Jasleen  Kaur, Deputy Principal of the college graced the occasion with her presence .While addressing the students, she said that we should give love and respect to girls for the balanced development of the society so that they can develop confidence and they can grow further.

On this occasion, Dr.  Pushpinder Kaur Convener, Nanhi Chhan Cell and Dean Press and Publication and Dr.Rajwinder Kaur Dean and Convenor, Student Welfare Committee (Girls) congratulated the participating and winning students. They motivated the students to have big goals, to work hard and to stay focused on their goals.

 The competition was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Monica Bansal, Dr. Baljinder Kaur and Prof. Jashandeep Kaur. About 35 students participated in the competition.  In the competition,Riya Rathore, B.A Hons. Social Sciences Part II, Khushpreet Kaur , B.Com.Part I secured the first and second positions respectivelty. Third positions were secured by  Komalpreet  Kaur, B.sc Hons. Maths I and Arshnoor Kaur B.A Hons. English I . Priyanka, B.A Hons. English I and Komalpreet Kaur, B.com Hons. I bagged consolation prizes. Khalsa College Patiala secures overall trophies in music and dance 
 
Khalsa College Patiala has once again achieved success by winning the overall trophy in the Inter Zonal Youth Festival of Punjabi University, maintaining its winning tradition through outstanding performances. In addition to this, the college also won the overall trophies in music and dance categories, setting a new record. This achievement was secured on the final day of the three-day Inter Zonal Youth Festival held at Punjabi University Patiala, based on the final results. A total of 258 colleges winning from various zonal youth festivals of Punjabi University participated in different categories. Khalsa College Patiala won first place in categories including Ghazal, Indian Group Song, Folk Song, Poster Making, On-the-spot Painting, Classical Dance, Bhangra, and Western Group Song. The college also secured second place in Skit, Group Shabad Singing, Poetry Recitation, and Collage and third place in Mimicry, Rangoli, and Clay Modelling.
 
S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib, congratulated the Principal, staff, and students of Khalsa College Patiala and said that the educational institutions under the management of the Committee are playing a pivotal role in the holistic development of students. Today, various departments of Khalsa College Patiala organized special programs to celebrate Bandichhor Divas and Diwali. Visits to orphanages were conducted to share the joy of these occasions. Faculty and students from the Post Graduate Punjabi Department visited SD KES Yadvindra Pooran Bal Niketan. During the visit, they spent time with the children there and presented them with fruits and essential items as gifts.

 

The School of Commerce and Management faculty and students visited Mata Kheevi Vridha Ashram, where they shared the festivities of Diwali and Bandichhor Divas with the residents.

 

The Post Graduate Computer Science Department organized a special lecture for Bandichhor Divas and held a rangoli competition while promoting the message of a Green Diwali. Dr. Gurveer Singh from the Religious Studies Department addressed the students, shedding light on the history and significance of Bandichhor Divas. In the rangoli competition, Hussanpreet Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, and Simran Kaur secured first place, while Rajandeep Kaur and Arshdeep Kaur came in second, and Amanpreet Kaur and Anureet Kaur took third. Certificates of encouragement were also awarded to Arshmeet Kaur, Charanjot Kaur, Khushmeet Kaur, and Raman.

Out of the five different categories, Khalsa College Patiala won four overall trophies.

 

At the three-day Zonal Youth Festival organized by Punjabi University, Patiala, Khalsa College Patiala proudly secured the title of Overall Champion for the 16th time, further enhancing its legacy.

 

On the third day of the festival, Prof. Yashpal Sharma, former Dean Academics, Punjabi University Patiala, was the chief guest in the morning session. This festival was successfully conducted under the supervision of Prof. Virender Kaushik, Director of the Youth Welfare Department, Punjabi University, Patiala.

 

Dr. Satish Kumar Verma, former Director, Youth Welfare Department, Punjabi University Patiala, graced the occasion. He especially admired the efforts made by Khalsa College Patiala's Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Dean, Cultural Activities Dr. Harvinder Kaur, faculty members, and students for their achievement as Overall Champions. Punjabi University Campus became First runner up and Govt. Mohindra Colege, Patiala Second Runner-Up.

 

Additionally, Khalsa College Patiala received trophies for Overall Music, Overall Dance, and Overall Fine Arts, Overall Theatre (shared with Modi College Patiala). Public College Samana received Overall Literary trophy. 

 

S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib, and Secretary Education, SGPC, S. Sukhminder Singh also congratulated Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, the faculty, and students for Khalsa College's achievement as the overall champion.

 

Prof. Yashpal Sharma emphasized that  progress of the society is intrinsically linked to preserving heritage, stating that such events shape the personalities of students .

 

Principal, Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha highlighted that the most progressive communities are those that encourage hard work in their upcoming generations. He stressed upon the importance of guiding them properly to safeguard cultural values. He also thanked the principals, teacher in-charges, team coaches, and staff involved in organizing the festival.

In Giddha, Punjabi University Campus bagged first place, Khalsa College Patiala second, and Government College for Girls, Patiala third place.

In Mime, Modi College secured first position, Mahindra College second, and Khalsa College Patiala third.

In Skit, Khalsa College Patiala secured first position, Modi College Patiala second, and Govt. Mohindra College, Patiala third position.

In Classical Dance, Government College for Girls got first position, and Khalsa College Patiala second position.

In Debate, Punjabi University Campus secured first position, Public College Samana second position , and Khalsa College Patiala third position.

In Elocution, Public College Samana came first, Khalsa College Patiala second, and Punjabi University Campus third.

In Poetry Recitation, Khalsa College Patiala secured first position, Modi College Second and Punjabi University Campus third position. 

The festival was marked by enthusiastic participation by students, who thoroughly enjoyed the various performances. With the untiring efforts made by Dr. Harvinder Kaur, Dean, Cultural Activities, Khalsa College Patiala, the festival left a memorable impression on everyone present in the festival.

Khalsa College Patiala won many competitions on the second day of the three day Zonal Youth Festival organized by Punjabi University Patiala. In today's events, Khalsa College secured first, second, or third positions in six competitions held across various categories.

 

The day started with competitions in drama, mimicry, and classical instrument performances. The Chief Guest on this occasion was S. Gurmeet Singh Booh, Member In-Charge of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib. He was joined by prominent musician Dr. Manmohan Sharma as  Special Guest. Other distinguished guests present were actor and artist Raj Joshi, playwright Sompal Heera, S. Jaswinder Singh Rekhi (Sweep Nodal Officer), Chakres Kumar, and various college principals.

 

Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of the college, welcomed all esteemed guests and emphasized that students are the assets of society. He said that such youth festivals play a vital role in shaping their personalities. He stated that the aim is to present a culture of high traditional values for the creation of a healthy society.

 

S. Gurmeet Singh Booh congratulated the organizers for the smooth management of the festival and encouraged students to become carriers of progressive thinking. He mentioned that youth festivals connect us to our heritage and culture, providing an opportunity to preserve our legacy.

 

Dr. Manmohan Sharma highlighted the immense potential within the youth, stressing the need for proper guidance. He explained that effective mentorship by teachers is crucial in identifying and nurturing hidden talents, enabling students to perform on stage.

 

In today's competitions, in drama, Modi College Patiala secured first place, Khalsa College Patiala  second, and Mahindra College Patiala got third place. In mimicry, Khalsa College Patiala won first place, Punjabi University Campus Patiala came second, and Modi College secured third place.

In classical instrument percussion, Khalsa College Patiala won first place, Punjabi University Campus Patiala second place. In classical instrument non percussion performances, Punjabi University Campus Patiala secured first position, Mahindra College came second, and Khalsa College Patiala third place.

In the Western Solo Instrument category, first, second, and third places were awarded to Punjabi University campus, Mahindra College, Government Bikram College of Commerce respectively. In Western Solo Vocal , Mahindra College got first position, Government Girls' College second and Khalsa College Patiala third position. In western group song, Khalsa College Patiala got first position, State College of Education Patiala second and Mahindra College third position.

A three day zonal youth festival for the Patiala zone, organized by Punjabi University Patiala, was inaugurated at Khalsa College Patiala, with great enthusiasm. The chief guest of this occasion was Honorable S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib. The first day of the festival was presided over by  S. Mandeep Singh Sidhu, DIG, Patiala Range and the Special Guest on this occasion was famous Punjabi singer S. Parmjeet Singh Sidhu (Pammi Bai). Other dignitaries present on this occasion were Prof. Virender Kaushik, Director of the Youth Welfare Department, Punjabi University Patiala, former President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, S. College Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha welcomed all dignitaries and  informed about various competitions to be held during this three day zonal youth festival. He proudly said that Khalsa College Patiala is among the leading educational institutions in North India, with many students achieving significant accolades at both national and international levels in academics and sports.

 

S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib, emphasized upon the need to connect with our religious values along with the knowledge of technological advancement . He highlighted Khalsa College Patiala's contributions, stating that it is playing a pivotal role among the educational institutions run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, evidenced by the enthusiastic response from students seeking admission.

 

S. Mandeep Singh Sidhu, DIG, Patiala Range, said in his speech that such youth festivals help in showcasing hidden talents of students and provide a platform for their skills. S. Parmjeet Singh Sidhu (Pammi Bai) stressed upon the fact that preserving traditional folk dances like Bhangra, Luddi, Jhumar, and Giddha is one of the greatest challenges of our time, which requires collective efforts.

 

Prof. Virender Kaushik, Director of the Youth Welfare Department, Punjabi University Patiala, stated that the main purpose of organizing such youth festivals is to promote the Punjabi language, culture, and to protect students from the relentless race of commercialization.

 

On the first day of the festival, Khalsa College Patiala secured first position in Bhangra, followed by Mahindra College Patiala securing second position, and Public College Samana at third position.

 

In the traditional folk song category, first place went to Khalsa College Patiala, second to Govt. College for Girls, Patiala, and third to Punjabi University, Patiala . In the folk orchestra, first was Khalsa College, Patiala, second was Public College Samana, and third was Punjabi University, Patiala. In the Group Shabad category, Punjabi University Campus Patiala got first position, Khalsa College Patiala second, and Guru Hargobind Sahib Khalsa College Karhali Sahib at third position.

 

In classical vocal, Khalsa College Patiala secured first position, Punjabi University Patiala second, and State College of Education Patiala third position.

 

In clay modeling, first was Punjabi University Patiala, second was Khalsa College Patiala, and third was State College of Education, Patiala. In rangoli, first was Guru Hargobind Sahib Khalsa Girls College, Karhali Sahib, second was Khalsa College Patiala, and third was Modi College Patiala.

 

In painting on spot, first was Khalsa College Patiala, second was Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa College of Education, Dhano Majra and third was State College of Education Patiala. In Installations, first was Government College for Girls Patiala, second was Khalsa College Patiala, and third was State College of Education Patiala.

 

In cartooning, first was Punjabi University Patiala, second was State College of Education Patiala, and third was Khalsa College Patiala. In collage, first was Government College for Girls, second was Khalsa College Patiala, and third was Modi College Patiala.

 

In poster making, first was Khalsa College Patiala, second was Public College Samana, and third was Government College for Girls Patiala. In mehndi, first was Government Bikram College of  Commerce Patiala, second was Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Girls College Aakar, and third was State College of Education.

 

In photography, first was Jawahar Lal Nehru Government College, second was Government College for Girls Patiala, and third was University College Mirapur. In the general quiz, Public College Samana got first position, Mahindra College Patiala second, and Modi College Patiala third.

 

Students enthusiastically participated in the festival and enjoyed various performances. With the guidance and efforts of Dr. Harvinder Kaur, Dean, Cultural Activities, Khalsa College Patiala, the first day of the festival was a huge success. Various stages were effectively managed by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Prof. Rajdeep Singh Dhaliwal, Prof. Mansimran Kaur, Dr. Davinder Singh, Dr. Gurveer Singh, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, and Dr. Jasleen Nanda. A large number of students and faculty members from various colleges were present on this occasion.

P.G. Department of Psychology, in collaboration with Dr. Ganda Singh Career Guidance, Counselling and Placement Cell of Khalsa College Patiala, organized  one-day Workshop on “Child Psychology: Coping Techniques for Interview” for the students. 

Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of the college, congratulated the organisers of the workshop and said that such workshops play a pivotal role in building self esteem and boosting confidence among the students. 

 

 Prof. Jaspreet Kaur, Dean Placements,   emphasized upon the importance of mental health in human's life. She said that the  relaxation techniques like deep breathing, mindfulness etc. play a significant role in maintaining emotional well-being of the students during the interview process. 

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Convener, Dr. Ganda Singh Career Guidance Counseling and Placement Cell, said that effective stress management leads to better focus and concentration.  She added that such events empower the students to navigate challenging situations with confidence and poise. 

 

Prof. Ramandeep Kaur, Head of Psychology Department, said that the workshop successfully equipped the  participants with the  coping  techniques like deep breathing exercises , positive self-talk for confidence boost, physical relaxation methods etc. 

Prof. Harleen Sidhu was the resource person and delivered the presentation on various coping techniques to manage stress before and during the interview. Prof. Navneet Kaur conducted the proceedings during the workshop.

The International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated today by the Student Welfare Committee (Girls) and Nanhi Chhan Cell of Khalsa College Patiala.  On this occasion, a Slogan Writing Competition was organized in which students from various departments of the college participated. They wrote slogans in Punjabi, Hindi and English languages on the topic of "Girl's vision towards the future" and "Raising the voice of girls for sustainable development".

 College Principal Dr.  Dharminder Singh Ubha while honoring the students said that the main purpose of celebrating this day of the college is to raise the courage, actions and leadership qualities of girls in the society and to raise awareness about gender based discrimination, torture and legal rights among them. Dr.  Ubha said that we should give love and respect to girls for the balanced development of the society so that they can develop confidence and they can grow further.

 

 On this occasion, Dr.  Pushpinder Kaur Convener, Nanhi Chhan Cell and Dean Press and Publication and Dr.Rajwinder Kaur Dean Student Welfare Committee (Girls) congratulated the participating and winning students. They motivated the students to have big goals, to work hard and to stay focused on their goals.

According to the guidelines of the Directorate of Education, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib, the Department of Political Science of Khalsa College Patiala organized a speech competition on the topic of 'Punchayati Raj System in India' with the aim of building personality and increasing the knowledge of college students. In these competitions Praneet Kaur, Arshdeep Singh and  Sahajdeep Singh got first, second and third place respectively. 

College Principal Dr.  Dharminder Singh Ubha, while appreciating this initiative of the Department of Political Science said that the implementation of the new constitution in the country was meant to establish a welfare state through the social and economic development of the country and the local governance has a special importance in this role. Without local self-government, neither progress in the country is possible nor democracy can become real and permanent.

Head of Department Dr.  Jagtar Singh said that the main objective of the 73rd and 74th amendments in the Constitution by the Government of India was to give constitutional recognition to the rural and urban institutions of local governance.  He also said that the present governments should give Panchayats the opportunity to become self-reliant and the right to do public administration, believing in the ability of the Panchayati Raj institutions, the people of the villages and the ability to use their hidden qualities.   On this occasion, apart from the college students, Prof.  Manpreet Kaur, Prof.  Harmanpreet Singh, Dr.  Upasana Garg and Prof.  Sandeep Kaur were also present.

In which NSS  volunteers presented the topic related to the responsibility of hygiene and environmental protection in a creative manner.  Students highlighted the importance of sanitation and waste management through their posters.  In this competition Muskanpreet Kaur B.B.A.  Part II, Mehkpreet Kaur B. Com Part I and Jasmin Kaur B.A.  Part II bagged first, second and third positions respectively.  The judgment of the posters made by the students was done by the head of the Fine Arts department Dr. Manveer Kaur.

Training given to farmers under NABAD project by Agriculture Department of Khalsa College Patiala 

 A one day zero energy cool chamber training program was organized by Post Graduate Agriculture Department of Khalsa College Patiala at Campus for Advanced Studies Dhablan.  This program was organized by Mrs. Parvinder Kaur A.G.M, as per NABAD Patiala guidelines.

 In this regard, the college principal Dr.  Dharminder Singh Ubha said that the agriculture department of the college is always searching for ways to guide the farmers of the area and increase their income and from time to time shares the new discoveries made in the agricultural sector with the farmers.  Today farmers were informed about Zero Energy Cool Chamber.  He expressed hope that through this technology farmers will be able to preserve their fruits and vegetables for a long time.

 On this occasion, while addressing the farmers and B.Sc students of agriculture part four, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Srivastava gave information about the benefits of this project.  He told the farmers that generally, vegetables and fruits are cultivated by small and medium farmers and it is very expensive for them to prepare cold stores for their cleanliness.  Explaining the solution to this problem, he told that how we can use zero energy cool chambers without any cost and energy and how it can prove beneficial for small farmers.  On this occasion, Prof.  Mahendra Lal appreciated the program and encouraged the farmers to adopt this project. Prof. Amanpreet Kaur, Prof.  Amarjit Kaur and Prof.  Deepak Bawa explained how farmers can keep their vegetables and fruits fresh for a long time.  Apart from this,  an information regarding natural farming and soil testing was also given. In this program, farmers also shared their experiences and shared their problems with the professors of the Department of Agriculture.  Apart from others, on this occasion, about 50 farmers from different places participated in this program and described it as beneficial.
